I haven't been to Guildford for probably close to a decade now! Do they still have the worlds crappiest night club Cinderella's? I've no idea tbh, I commute here from Balham and I've not spent much time familiarising myself with the local wildlife... yet

I'm lucky, I got an insanely good deal I'm just on the High Road between Balham and Tooting Bec Underground stations. Wimbledon's nice, that's where my last job was (Square Enix Europe/Eidos). I grew up in Putney, so it was always just up the road.

I might be around, I don't actually live in London but I'll most likely be there quite a lot over summer for social reasons anyhow.

I bought a load of BTL on the old hospital site off-plan for ~50-75k sold the lot for 200-250k in 2005 thinking I was a genius topping the market... I now get mouseprices mails telling me they are selling for over 350k! Crazy...

Would totally join you guys, but I am in fact a resident of Cardiff (don't let The Valleys fool you, Lord Ba'al, it is not like Essex ) Heh, Tooting Bec. England has such weird place names. Should stick with some good ol' fashioned names like Llandudno or Bangor.

Last time I went drinking in London we went to Tiger Tiger for a friend's birthday and got kicked out 'cause she was causing trouble Good times.

I'm in New Jersey next week if you change your minds? Back in Cambridge the week after. No problem. We are in Croatia until June 26th. I will definitely try to get to Cambridge if I can, it sounds like a cool place and maybe not super far from Ilford? It is funny you are going to New Jersey, you mean the USA one? I live in the nearby state of Delaware when in USA. It is such a small world at times.

Regarding potential dates for the get together, I think a Saturday would probably be most suitable for everyone. Looking at the calender I see that would give us either June 28th or July 5th. I would rather meet somewhere in the afternoon as opposed to the evening though this of course does not exclude potentially extending the meeting from the afternoon into the evening. How does everybody feel about that?
Of course we could consider meeting on a friday or a sunday but that might make it more difficult for people to really enjoy themselves if they have to come straight from work or have to work the next day.

Cambridge is not THAT close to Ilford but is a place is worth a visit for a couple of days, especially if we have good weather.

LOL. Dover is 20 minutes away and in Delaware, try out Dover downs, they have a full Casino now and a few nice places to eat at.I once did a tour of the "big" planes at Dover air force base, it was amazing. Dover AFB is actually a well used military base in USA and has the sad job to accept all bodies of American lost soldiers most of the time. Philly is 45 minutes away and I am originally from the suburbs of it, hit the Mid Town Continental Rooftop lounge if you can, and Butchers and Singers is awesome...but bring your wallet. The food was out of this world. Almost any hotel concierge should be able to send you to an excellent Steven Starr eatery and there are plenty of others as well. If you like sports, try seeing the Phillies in Citizens Bank Park, it is an amazing stadium with tons of cool pubs and cafes. I would advise against Dave and Buster's unless you truly love to over pay for being in a carnival atmosphere but the billiard tables are nice and Old City has hundreds of cool places from wine bars to dives to choose from. Atlantic City is 1.5 hours away and make sure you go to the Chelsea Hotels bar while there, very upscale retro and there is a fun pub across the street. Enjoy!
If you want any more advice, feel free to ask. That is my neck of the woods and I am a bit of a foodie and not exactly a couch potato. The Constitution center is well worth the time and money and I am a native. The Philadelphia Museum of Arts is where you can run the steps like Rocky! You might want to take a subway to South Street and go and have a cheese steak from Pat's or Geno's but they really are nothing special. If you do it, get extra toppings and skip the cheese whiz. I have traveled the local area quite a bit especially most of Delaware and much of Philly with a bit of AC thrown in. Some other time you might like to try Baltimore, Inner Harbor Area and of course good old Washington DC.

So how about June 28th or July 5th? Haven't really seen any responses regarding those dates, except from George who likes to fit in.

Seriously, how hard is it to find a decent map of the London area public transit zones? Very hard apparently! Even the sites that try to sell you the travelcard don't tell you how the zones are laid out. How am I supposed to know if I want to buy one or which one I want to buy if they don't give me any information about this?
I've found something that shows the tube lines and the zone layout but it's not a map but just a schematic. The Thames looks like it has only straight angled bends. Google has a map that shows you all the nooks and crannies, but they don't tell you the zone layout. I'm disappointed in you Google.
Does anyone have a decent map of London including transit zoning?
