There was a referendum in Ireland about gay marriage or something like that.

I suspect he didnt leave willingly. He was more than likely shown the door and told to GTFO. His saying he wanted to leave just sounds like more of his typical spin to me

I suspect he didnt leave willingly. He was more than likely shown the door and told to GTFO. His saying he wanted to leave just sounds like more of his typical spin to me To be honest, the departure wasn't nearly as nefarious as it may sometimes seem from the outside looking in. His desire to return to the days of Bullfrog type development was genuine and wasn't really the result of Microsoft pushing him out or anything. Don't forget, Peter wasn't just Creative Director at Lionhead Studios. After the successful acquisition of Lionhead by Microsoft in April 2006, he was promoted as the Creative Director for European studios within Microsoft. Eventually that, plus running Lionhead and the Fable franchise, led to a workload that kept him away from the actual game making (though Fable franchise manager Louise Murray helped with this, later followed by Ted Timmins as the franchise manager following Peter's departure). I've actually been picking at a write up about some of this if anyone's interested in the in's and out's of Peter's career, the history of Lionhead Studios and Bullfrog, as well as other industry veterans in Europe (the Carter brothers, etc.). The manuscript is meant to be a bit of an encompassing look at some influential game developers and how true indie development actually began in Europe in the 80's (on things like the Amiga), as opposed to the more popular opinion that indie development began in the mid 2000's. It's a very rough draft at the moment and there's a number of other companies I need to add into the chronological events, but it's a fun little project I poke at every now and again. Here's a screen capture of what I've got so far, but it's a bit zoomed out as the writing isn't anywhere near something presentable. Lots of personal notes and draft paragraphs, etc.

I love to see little nuggets of secular gaming history drawn up... good luck on your project! In regards to my previous comment... from the outside, I find it somewhat interesting that, in his quest to return to the Bullyfrog glory days (read #pelletgun), he has built himself into a mini-Microsoft environment of sorts. Nothing sinister... just tragically ironic in a way. With the hiring of Simon, that has come close to full circle. At least he's willing to admit where he excels and where he has no business treading.

Sounds like an interesting write-up. I love Amiga and 80's and 90's. Bring it on.

Electronic Arts started as an indie. It's thanks to their commercial success that they became a publisher.

I'm a ZX spectrum kid, who later went on to the Amiga (skipped over the Atari ST), I have fond memories of that bygone age. Anything that would make me reminisce and become sentimental is welcome. Hands up who remembers this little beauty

Thanks guys. I've put quite a bit of work into it thus far. Lots of never before seen pictures, interviews I conducted that haven't ever been released publicly, and more goodies. Here's a few more screenies for anyone interested, but please bear in mind that this is all first draft material. In most cases, every paragraph you see needs to be fleshed out into two or more paragraphs each. The draft seen here is basically just my first run through of organizing everything chronologically. Also, keep in mind this one document is mainly just focused on Bullfrog/Lionhead/22cans (not even necessarily Peter's career) and that the final document would feature numerous companies and industry leaders. I also included a few photos I have that are pretty neat but I've hidden most of them from view just so I don't show all of my exclusive content. As an interesting side note, I had to restore the Taurus logo as the only copy of it that existed was extremely low res and not print quality. Anywho, here's a bit more content for anyone interested: - First few pages- Part 1- Populous- Images of Bullfrog

I loved the old British Amiga magazines, they were the best. One Amiga, CU Amiga, Amiga Action, Amiga Format. Though Amiga Format was not as good as the other ones. I still have a whole collection of them stashed safely (I hope) in a box somewhere. One day I plan to scan them in and read them again.

Hands up who remembers this little beauty I do, I do! That ending though, haha. (Spoilers, I guess...) Once you beat the last level, there's a short scene where you finally make your way to the surface and then instantly get run over and killed. Anyone remember this? Bullfrog's first proper game! Heh, thanks mate. It's super rough around the edges so I'm a bit embarrassed at its current state, but it could be a worthwhile read once properly fleshed out and polished.

Hands up who remembers this little beauty Lord Ba'al raises hands. I remember that one. I was totally addicted to that for a while and then suddenly from one moment to the next it stopped working. Never got it to work again. Aaargh!
