I'm a ZX spectrum kid, who later went on to the Amiga (skipped over the Atari ST), I have fond memories of that bygone age. Anything that would make me reminisce and become sentimental is welcome. Hands up who remembers this little beauty Lord Ba'al raises hands. I remember that one. I was totally addicted to that for a while and then suddenly from one moment to the next it stopped working. Never got it to work again. Aaargh! I'm sensing a pattern...

This article seems to be written, part and parcel, for studios like 22cans. Lost in the distribution drive, it seems they've forgotten that they are, in fact, in the entertainment business... not in the, how Molyneux so delicately put it, (paraphrasing) "raping of freemium whales" business. techcrunch.com/2015/05/31/incremental-design/

First of all I think Peter was envious of Zygna, King, etc and wanted that level of financial success. Then they lost any semblance of direction as they lurched from release to release and fire to fire. The article does miss EA as an enduring company that suffers from a focus on optimisation/distribution. Of course I think they have burned through a fair bit of IP along the way.

They've taken the time to document their people reboot on the website. www.22cans.com/about-us/Can't put my finger on it but aren't we missing a person or two? SFX guy? New audio guy? Maybe they left a while ago and I missed it. Also, if it's accurate... while PM is listed as Creative.. Konrad is the only Designer listed. Interesting...

Misleading marketing? I just watched the godus clip on steam store video, it has champions in it and voyages display, also mentions guiding your people through ages, none of those are is the current release are they? Or is there still 1 voyage if you restart? cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/2029244/movie480.webm?t=1407754202Then again I suppose its made to sell the game much as trailers sometimes only show the best bits to sell movie tickets. And the spaceman as someone pointed out...

So, the timeline is still just a flat and boringly ordinary .... line. *sigh* That's really sad. Sorry if this is completely out of place but, jesus christ, 22cans. Why do you guys keep the most important thing sooo simple? As flat as the mobile devices?

Let's not also forget how Godus is still being sold in some places with multiplayer combat and progressing through the ages - the 1.3 description - while neither are currently in the game.

There was, at one time, a promise that they would integrate some sort of skill-tree like structure, but I can only assume that must have gone out the window pretty much immediately after making that statement.

Surely adding buildings and follower models is all art and a very simple thing to do, making at the aspects of a game mod-able seems to be the in thing with these games nowdays too, I played with Lego digital designer, the fact you can import these/any ldd design into lego worlds is very cool. If they had the art assets why not publish them, make the community see that they exist?

I'm going to go against the consensus here, and say that I don't believe the art exists.
We have seen how they have worked upto this point, always just exclusively focusing on one aspect at a time. if there is anything to show it will just be 2D concept work at best. They will not have 3D models of the buildings or characters from future ages yet, as they only seam to create these items as and when they are required. I suspect this would be down to their scrum sprinting methodology where they have a narrow focus on something. So I doubt they would even have looked into developing the future ages without having even reached them developmentally yet.
Maybe i'm wrong, but until i see some actuall 3D renders, i'll stick with this opinion.

Judging from this recent post on Steam, 22Cans' new CEO seems to be taking the same creative liberties with the use of "iterative design" as the last one: "We use agile for development at 22cans as it suits our iterative design process much better. As you say, it means that we can focus on specific elements of design and react to how successful (or unsuccessful) a feature turns out to be in a more rapid way. You've seen from the recent updates that we are currently focussing on 'combat' and by using agile the team were able to realise earlier in the year, that for it to be the experience we would like it to be it has to be much more involved than initial designs suggested. In my opinion, agile saved us a lot of wasted time and code." steamcommunity.com/app/232810/discussions/0/530645446309974906/Simon, can you please tell us how 22Cans' designed or reacted to the unsuccessful response garnered by the Story "feature" when it was presented to us and met with wholesale community rejection? Kyreal(?) told us it would be revised based on community feedback, so we'd hoped to see some improvements after 4 months.
