Pip-BoyEssentially it's a multifunction electronic mobile device worn on the arm, and is essentially an all purpose piece of equipment; It provides a means for a control mechanic UI containing GPS mapping, inventory, skills list, health and physical status, achievements, quest list, and even a radio (I think that;s everything).

Funny thing, especially with the altered Futurama pic on the first page, is that a Pip-Boy is basically like Leela's wrist unit. Scanner, light, Geiger counter, all sorts of things put into one sci-fi device on the arm. Like a mobile, but FAR more useful. I also can't stand Bethesda games on consoles. Not only are you completely boned if you run into one of the numerous bugs before the community fixes them, but sometimes you have to just mod out crap design. Hopefully this time they have hired on better writers than the 12 year-old they had write Fallout 3's dialog ("I'm looking for my father, middle-aged guy" "Why did you leave the Vault?" and no response of "Gee, you left me with one of the Godus moderators as Overseer, who then had your lab assistant Jonas killed and aiming for me next. Why would I want to leave that?"), and Fallout 4 will definitely be a challenge since Bethesda already cribbed from Fallout 1 and 2's story elements to write "SUPER-DUPER" in front of them in crayon. Kicked out of your Vault in Fallout 1? In Fallout 3 you get SUPER-DUPER kicked out! Enclave in Fallout 2 that should have been dying off after the events in Fallout 2, not getting bigger? In Fallout 3 you get to meet the SUPER-DUPER Enclave! Need to find a Water Chip for your Vault in Fallout 1? In Fallout 3 you get to make the SUPER-DUPER Water Chip! Etc. They are also going to have a fun time actually creating a setting, versus the Sci-Fi Reference-by-Numbers they did for Fallout 3. They've gotten their THEM! and Forbidden Planet out of the way, but couldn't resist some Blade Runner to add in androids (in a setting where the microchip really didn't exist - take a look at the electronics used in 2077 - vacuum tubes!)

Has anyone tried the new Fallout iOS game? Any fun or just sad nostalgic cash grab? No, unfortunately, as it's not out on Android yet, and I don't own any apple products. I tried using an emulator on my PC but it wouldn't function properly. From what I hear tho, it's fun and nostalgic, but definitely aimed at the casual mobile playstyle; it does have micro transactions but they're not necessary. In other Fallout 4 news, the Pipboy Special Edition pre-order sold out almost everywhere within hours, and people had to get on waiting lists. That's going to be lots of cash money for Bethesda, and it was a brilliant idea. I am looking forward to having the free Pipboy app to manage my in-game character, so the special edition isn't necessary... but it would make a nice collectible showpiece.

I have really let this place go to pot. Unfortunately I never have the time to put into things that I would like to.
