The competition would constrain 22Cans to a deadline, and they've not met one of those since they incorporated. Good point, well made!

One of the packages is titled "Godus Wars Developer Comp". User vv [FuMM] on Steam (does he post here?) did a bit of googling and found this: unity3d.com/contest/windowsThis could explain Emerald Prophet's claim that the version of Godus Wars he saw was in Unity. If it's right and 22Cans plan on entering that competition, Godus Wars would need to be published to the Windows store by the end of January. Here's a link to the Steam thread (Tim's latest Community Herald) where this was brought up: steamcommunity.com/app/232810/discussions/0/458604254462568416/Does the Unity site mention which January? ;-)

Does the Unity site mention which January? ;-) Thankfully not every company behaves like they're operating a lemonade stand. Also: Contest winners will be announced on or around March 30th, 2016.Does that mean we can expect them ignoring us for another three months? And that's probably only if they don't come in second to last. I'm really curious if they're even able to get into the top three.

That competition requires that the game would have to be published on the Windows Store. Godus is pretty heavily tied to Steam.

I'm a bit ignorant on this, but I thought that Godus was in Marmalade engine and if Godus Wars is being developed in Unity, I've actually never seen (and again, I am probably wrong on this) games using multiple engines on the same platform for same/but different functions. Does anyone know if there is any cross-over/pipeline? Are they switching to Unity? It'd be super weird to have the game run on one engine and 'Godus Wars' boot up a Unity executible when prompted. If there are tech people around, am I reading this completely wrong or is that an actual thing?

If there are tech people around, am I reading this completely wrong or is that an actual thing? Godus is running in Marmalade, and like you, I've never seen multiple engines used as they might be in this manner. I think the reasoning behind this current speculation is the odd coincidence of hearing that they seem to be working in Unity and the upcoming contest and Steam entry all happening around the same time. It is possible that they're not only making prototypes with Unity and do intend to enter that contest, with the hope that success means they may then bother bringing it to Steam too, but if they were to do so, it would then likely mean having to find a way to convert it back into Marmalade if they really wanted it to connect to the existing Godus. However, that seems a tad convoluted, which suggests to me a few possibilities: -They're not entering that contest and Unity's only for prototyping. -They are entering that contest, and the end product won't connect to Godus. -They're entering the contest but intend to convert the end product back into Marmalade to connect to Godus (if successful enough). If I had to guess, I'd currently sit at the first option, simply because the alternatives either would make them look worse or take even more time (thus costing them more). Not to mention what others have already highlighted, which is their inability to meet deadlines. Although I'd point out, I suspect they did meet their DeNA deadlines, much to our chagrin.

That looks quite official. It sounds like we might see a new standalone version of GODUS developed under unity. I think a new steam game suggests an abandonment of old GODUS. Making the engine shift makes sense because Marmalade sounds like balls. Plus a new game will shed bad feedback and forums and avoid the integration challenge.

Tin foil hat time... this whole Godus Wars steamdb deal could be more of a red herring for yet another mobile app. I guess we'll find out upon release, but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if "Godus Wars" ended up on Apple's Editors Choice list, and not for being an excellent port of a PC game.

Or....
We're seeing an increasing number of free games with microtransactions on Steam...
Maybe they want a piece of that market.

Or it is Fabs' secret project and has nothing whatsoever to do with 22cans anymore.

Well, actually that certainly is definitive proof that its 22Cans - as if we had much doubt - as the logo would be their copyright property. I can't imagine the media being too kind on them if its anything besides the Godus we were promised. Cry havoc, and let slip the Godus Wars!!

There needs to be a GDC talk on 'God is Dead: How to Absolutely Always Do the Wrong Thing as a Studio' and show game developers how 22Cans have always picked the worst option at every step of the day. This looks mediocre, the art design on the logo is insane because it invokes thoughts of War-Z or other F2P titles on Steam and they're now competing with literally any other, better, RTS game. It's going to be amazing to watch how this disaster unfolds, again.

It's going to be amazing to watch how this disaster unfolds, again. That was my advice at the outset. If you are making a unit based RTS you throw yourself into direct competition with games like Total War. There are so many ways it can go wrong with unit movement and the way the battles resolve. At the time I felt it would be more achievable to go for a simple combat mechanic (a glorified counter) and make the strategy about developing your people as a resource to support your war effort. Of course its possible that the combat will be interesting and backed by some really interesting and original GODUS related mechanics. Based on past experience and the development resources they have available I think this is unlikely.

Godus Wars starts with an opening crawl. Here's the first line: "Peter Molyneux has vanished"
It has to do with a developer renouncing the 22 Cans Order and joining up with a lone forum dweller to destroy their superweapon. I heard where Disney was approached and they laughed. A lot.

Actually, it would be pretty funny if it turned out to be a documentary about the Kickstarter backers' relationship with 22scams.

Actually, it would be pretty funny if it turned out to be a documentary about the Kickstarter backers' relationship with 22scams. Where they feature live action recreations of Lord Ba'al and his hooligans invading 22Cans offices and beating the shit out of their lead designers and PR team. And also a silhouette of Peter Molyneux with a distorted voice explaining how he just wanted to make videogames. I'd almost pay to watch that
