I thought we could put up a "Where we are headed" banner made out of dog poop and everything.

Could we have "Steam forum rules" day? I could put up streamers and bring party hats? No hats please. Can we have some cats and pats instead? Pat a cat, it is your pet.

If we have a Steam forum rules day, wouldn't we all be banned and have 90 percent of Godus threads locked?

If we have a Steam forum rules day, wouldn't we all be banned and have 90 percent of Godus threads locked? Quite likely, yes. And I'm generally good and fair and not nasty to people. And yet, I was banned once for using certain words (by, guess who) One thing I don't like is how loosely written (vague) some of those rules are; which leaves them open to a bit of self-interpretation, thus the potential to be unfairly applied or abused by mods making judgement based on emotions. For instance; Derail a thread's topic. That's extremely unspecific.

Recently, someone on Steam was complaining about freedom of speech and Muir linked them to this XKCD comic whilst telling them that freedom of speech doesn't apply on Steam: xkcd.com/1357/I certainly wouldn't argue that freedom of speech applies on Steam, but by linking the user to that comic, Muir is effectively telling that user that what they have to say is "bullshit" and that they are an "asshole". This is the spirit in which the comic is intended, and I have no doubt multiple forum moderators before him from all over the web will gleefully link to it any time anyone tries to claim that their right to free speech has been violated. Is it acceptable for 22Cans administrators to be calling forum users bullshit-spouting assholes? Yes it is, evidently, because Muir is still a mod and continues to clumsily wield his ban-hammer at anyone who dares skitter off-topic.

I agree about the comic. It is just a taunt on behalf of Muir to call that poster an asshole without actually literally saying it. That is rather weak in my opinion. If you're gonna call someone an asshole just call them an asshole. But I guess that would go against his own precious forum rules. Then he'd have to put himself on suspension. There are assholes and then there are major assholes. I've had the displeasure of dealing with a major asshole on another forum. I was just a member there, not a moderator, nor did I want to be. The asshole actually was a moderator there for a while. But then he stopped being a moderator. I think that was because he just wanted to be a major asshole. The forum admin and other moderators just let him be the asshole he wanted to be. On rare occassions they would tell him to knock it off but they never really took any action. I haven't been to the forum in years now and I recently heard that that asshole was no longer a member there. Whether that was by his own choice or by the admin's choice I do not know. I'm glad that we don't have any such major assholes on this forum, only regular assholes. If I were to find such an asshole on this forum though I would kindly ask him to behave. If he wouldn't take my request to heart I might first decide to have a little fun. Maybe I would change his offensive posts into something more acceptable. Like the lyrics from Teletubbies or something to that effect. The great thing about being an admin is that you can just take any unpleasant situation and bend it into an enjoyable one. I pity the fool who'd think he could harass me on this forum. I am one tenacious son of a bitch. Spammers can be annoying but they generally don't stay up for close to 40 hours at a time. I would win that race for sure. Meanwhile the other forum users might get a laugh out of it. And if I'd ever get tired of it I would just swing a permanent IP ban his way. Lord Ba'al is not an evil god but he does reign supreme. Now can you imagine if the word asshole would be reason for a reprimand on this forum? I would have to ban myself for life. I am such an asshole.

Really, it sounds like he did break the Steam rules by posting that link. It sounds off topic to me, unless the whole topic was about stand up comedy and not Godus? So he can thread drift to make his point but other posters cannot? Why can he get away with something like that and yet hold the posters to another standard?
TBH,I think he is just another diversion tactic. Let everyone just get pissed at him and not bitch about the actual game itself. Spin spin spin, that's all I see it as. Want to divert attention away the fact that the game will most likely never be what you want, give them another common enemy to rally against. If they really cared what posters wanted, they would at least have another equally powerful one to present a more lenient way of moderation similar to the Umbra was on 22cans or Ba'al is on here, and no he did not ask, tell, infer or want me to say that. LOL.

Divide and conquer is what you're saying. Not to go too political but it is like when a president has this huge problem looming over his head like, let's say, a shit economy, so he knows his approval rating is in the pot and still wants badly to be re-elected so they create a campaign about something bad but workable like foreign affairs or the problem with children's obesity in Kansas. People will get so involved talking about this foreign affair/Fat kid problem that they will stop debating the shit economy and while not a perfect set-up for the president, he does still stand a chance of obtaining his ultimate goal of re-election. It is like reverse psychology with a diversion tactic that still brings negative reaction to him, but much less than it would have without it. This is why I called it spin. When you are trouble and you spin the situation to meet your needs, I call it spin. Instead of dealing head on with that issue, said shit economy, good ole hypothetical Prez man diverted the attention to a bullshit argument and so used spin to meet his goal instead of working to rectify the situation that really needed the most attention.

You don't have to explain it to me, I know how it works. So to keep a long story short... divide and conquer.

Just to chime in on this real quick, Muir usually runs most things by George or myself before doing anything like bans and so forth, though he does have some leeway when it comes to locking threads and such as it's just not sensible to have a conversation about every tiny bit of moderating that needs to go on throughout the day. That said, if you guys have some concerns on the moderating side of things feel free to drop me a line at any time or voice them here (though I usually prefer feedback to a team member about another team member to be kept in a private message just out of respect, but that's up to you). You know, that would be against the Steam Board rules and nets you a ban. (Arguing with a mod is against the rules). Heh, all snark aside, I feel that the spirit of that particular rule applies more to causing an undue ruckus on the Steam forums which, I suppose, is a moot point as we're not on Steam. Though if there's any concern on that front there's certainly nothing wrong with dropping George or myself a private message if you've got a red flag that you want to raise regarding our community team.

After reading your post I only could think of this scene: [...] I am such an asshole. =D I can't really say anything about Muir anymore as I left the godus steam forum some time ago. I felt uncomfortable just being there because it upset me so much that I thought it would be better just to hop in once every week/every 2 weeks and see if something important happened that contributes to bringing the game closer to the promises made at kickstarter.

Threads like this are the reason why I so infrequently post on the Steam forum anymore: steamcommunity.com/app/232810/discussions/0/540744474776363066/A few Denny Crane quotes: Muir has actually been involved throughout this entire thread, and yet here is his response to people requesting that action is taken against Denny Crane: "It's not sexist it's just stereotypical!" LOL. Against women, against men, against all forum posters who critcise Godus, etc.. Denny Crane's post is very clearly directed to all people criticising Godus, therefore it is just as personal as the reactionary post recently made by Dick Dodgin' which criticises all 22Cans developers. And finally, here is a quote from the vaunted Forum Rules thread which is used by the mods to justify all of their bans, thread splits and repeated warnings: That last one, by the way, is in the section of rules which is supposed to result in an immediate temporary ban and deletion of the offending post. There is no point in reporting Denny Crane because the mods are the problem. I once tried to add Muir to my Steam friends list so I could discuss some issues of forum moderation with him, because I recognise that it is inappropriate (and besides which against the rules) to have these conversations on the forum itself, but he declined my request. While I was typing this, someone else posted in that thread to highlight these exact same issues. I expect he will be temp-banned for continuing to derail the topic and argue with mods.

I would be curious to see if sanctions are taken once you do since Muir is clearly showing bias yet again.

You know I wouldn't be surprised if Denny Crane actually is a puppet created by Muir so he can behave like a dick on the forum without endangering his precious position.

That's just silly really, Denny Crane is obviously not a puppet. Anyhow, wrt Denny Crane and the stuff being said, they are smart enough to *just about* not do too much to be banned. Just ignore them if you are bothered by what they are saying.

I don't think he's being smart. If anyone else posted like that they would be warned and banned; it's pure favouritism from Muir because Denny Crane posts in defense of 22Cans. I currently AM ignoring him (on Steam anyway) because getting involved with those discussions just encourages him, but George was fast as lightning to react when a single individual said they felt the Steam forums were unwelcoming to new users because of the negativity. And here is one individual acting like a complete douche constantly, and the mods positively encourage it.
