I'd probably agree with Crumpy Six on brighton over belfast, the proximity to London is a real plus for doing stuff on the weekend (that's if the weather isn't nice enough for you to be on the beach, which knowing England it won't be for 51 weeks of the year).

I'm sure Belfast is great, but I'd plump for Brighton! Brilliant city. Let us know how it pans out. *Raised Eyebrow* (No, actually, you're probably right)

Both places are good, I use to run a team out of Belfast when I worked at Citi group and visited a few times and always had fun. Just like Scotland, it always seem to be raining except when it was snowing! Pubs are great and so are people. Brighton is where London goes for a dirty weekend away! Say no more...

I like: Cats; single malt Scotch; Stargate; Amiga; fried potatoes; retro gaming; cheese; snickers; sticky tape.
I don't like: Dimples in the bottom of scotch bottles; Facebook games masquerading as godgames.

Oddly my thought of Brighton was more that it's a very different community to many but based on your recent posts of the community where you are currently based, it should be a near seamless change.

Not sure that warrants 3 question marks, but Brighton has typically been in the news - at least when I have seen Brighton being mentioned for its LGBT community and recently hosted the first official rainbow crossing in Europe, which was the last time I saw it on the new here in the UK. I'd a recollection of you referring to your current location as 'I live in the land of gender benders'
Belfast however, for my part, will suit your uisce beatha (Whiskey) facet better, notwithstanding it may change your spelling

I wasn't sure if Ba'al was referring to Croatia or NL with the original comment, but I thought it would be less of a culture shock than Norn Iron, as Northern Ireland is referred to - at least by those from that country of origin. Belfast and Brighton a very very different in just about all respects, though I'm a local yokel from the sticks rather than the big smoke...

I'd a recollection of you referring to your current location as 'I live in the land of gender benders' I don't recall ever having said that, but I will stand corrected if what you say happens to be true. Regardless, I have no problems with people being gay whatsoever, so unless you're telling me they're running around Brighton tearing up the place I think it should be fine. Belfast however, for my part, will suit your uisce beatha (Whiskey) facet better, notwithstanding it may change your spelling I'm sure they have good scotch in Brighton as well.

I suppose somewhere in Norn Iron?

So, is it nice living in Northern Ireland?

Absolutely. I left for a number of years to get paid better elsewhere, before going back to complete my education before leaving again, to well ;)get better paid elsewhere. If I could command the salary or at least its equivalent I'd go back again. Its a very different country on many ways to the one I grew up in, but so too are the places I went after I grew up there.

It is official. We are going to Belfast. I have been hunting on the web for places to stay in the Lisburn Road area and joined a Belfast forum for some extra tips and to meet more people from the area. There are more boxes in the apartment now than food and most importantly most of my shoes are now packed. I am excited, it might be for a year or less or longer but we are going to enjoy another adventure together. Croatia was amazing and I was terrified before we went there and so I am quite happily looking forward to Belfast and all the beauty of Northern Ireland and also happy that Dublin is only a few hours south so we might be able to do that Guinness tour we missed out on when in Dublin last time. Our kitties just got their Rabies shots and last check at the Vet and have their European passports all set and allowed in UK in 20 days. Now that we know where we are going I can really start my planning and research so indeed, look out UK, here we come!

Yep, Belfast it will be. I guess 22Cans can now breathe again knowing that even though I will be in the same country I will actually be further away from Guildford than I am right now.

Belfast and Guildford are not in the same country... Had you chosen Brighton they would have been.

Belfast and Guildford are not in the same country... Had you chosen Brighton they would have been. You are right, same Kingdom, same Nation but different country. I have been schooled a bit by the folk on the Belfast forum I joined never to call Belfast "Ireland" and always to refer to it as "Northern Ireland" or "UK". One thing is for sure, the immigration papers for Brighton and Belfast are the same so once we get through it once, we will be able to live anywhere in the UK should the Brighton job open back up in the future at some point.
