I have not played the latest update. But then as my email changed recently I am not sure I have gone to them to update to my new email and so have not received any new emails on if they have updated it.

I really hope they open beta to all backers soon.

Well, it looks like they're still not close to being out of Alpha yet. Even though what I've seen of the game looks awesome, it's really hard to keep my enthusiasm alive for this game. I am a Beta backer and it's looking like another year without getting to play with it. I'm holding onto my hope that it's all worth it.
But, at least it's not Godus.

I popped in last week for a bit before the last witch doctor update and is not bad. It is a Alpha but they are making progress so can not complain about that. It looks really good I have to say.

So what's the latest on the game? Is it making steady progress?

Anyone know how things are faring with The Universim? Any information on a release date for example? Both Steam and GOG are listing it as "coming soon" but I'm not expecting that to mean much.

I haven't actually played it, other than a very early demo, since it went into close Alpha/Beta testing, because that wasn't my pledge level. However, (last week) I suddenly discovered that they sent out keys some time ago (November? January?) but I somehow missed the email. Apparently I wasn't the only one, as many people asking about it were subsequently informed (by other players) to check the portal. If you pledged, you might want to check the website for yours. I haven't had time to play, unfortunately, because of my enormous backlog... and we're currently in a push at work doing 55hrs. I don't recommend the latter.

I actually didn't pledge, so I won't be trying it anytime soon. Don't have a computer that could run it anyway. Just thought it's been a while since I checked up on progress. Maybe someone who has access can tell us a bit in that regard.

I'm curious to see whether this is trending towards a release or towards vapourware.

It has been quite a while since they raised money so we should be seeing results.

Yeah, I'm half afraid it'll exist in Early Access limbo for some time until the devs grow weary and suddenly "release" it and move on. I guess I could make some time to play with it and let you know my thoughts. I'm trying to find more time to play as preparation to begin streaming. It's an excuse to play more, mostly, and partly get involved in the gaming community more, maybe make a few bucks in the process as a side effect. So far life keeps intervening and I'm not quite where I want to be before starting... though eventually I'm just going to have to leap, otherwise the opportunity might fly past me. I have actually done a few "let's play" style videos with my friends - *cough-shamelessplug-cough* our channel is called ' The Occasional Gamers' and we're on the YouTubes.

SO... I just loaded it up and gave my copy of The Universim Alpha v0.0.15 "Windy" a go. So, yeah. It's pretty and I can see it being quite interesting and fun. However, it still has a lot of little errors, some serious imbalance issues, and things that are simply not even added or worked out yet. This is going on... what, 4 years? I mean look at this error; Apparently this Nugget contracted deadly localized bug...These kinds of errors show up frequently. I think it could be a great game, but after all this time it's a bit late to the party and will likely feel quite dated by the time it launches. That said, it's still waaaay better than "The Failure" was at this stage.

Well at least it shows they've implemented a proper error handling system and that they have a sense of humour.

I've been playing updates as they come out.
The game itself is fine - a couple of mechanics need tweaking but there's nothing really wrong with it. The issue that they seem to be having is that development is extremely slow which I imagine is because they can't afford to have many people work on it.
It's taken several years to get to a playable stone age level which is good for around an hour, so I really don't know if it's ever going to get to the ambitious 'evolve to the space age' thing that was originally planned.
But yes, it's a better and more interesting game than 'that other one' was. The potential is there, just not sure it'll ever be reached.

"Stuck in the Stone Age" seems to be the crux of several of these ambitious god games.
The Universim devs spent an ungodly amount of time just community sourcing the design of the characters - or 'Nuggets' as they're called - which really wasn't the best use of resources. It's a very negligible aesthetic to the overall game function. Unfortunately, that somewhat mirrors "The Failure's" irrational focus on mundane things, instead of core mechanics.
I'm disappointed, but kinda not really surprised it's taking forever.

I think it has gameplay, but I'm not positive; the July update post seems to indicate there is, but it's still vague. I have Early Access as a backer but haven't played in more than a month.

I just received an invite to join the Universim Discord channel.

I've been a member of their Discord for a few months now, not that I visit often. It's fairly active though, and has a lot of channels. Looks like there's another patch this weekend, but no patch note details have been released yet. It's probably just more creatures, as that seems to be their focus lately.
